Gul said that US President George W. Bush gave the commitment work with Turkey to fight against PKK terror during their meeting in Washington on Tuesday, said Turkish President Abdullah Gul, who is currently in New York.
Bush reaffirmed the commitment in combating PKK terror. I am very glad to hear that, Gul said.
The Turkish President also said that Iraq needed to do more to remove the PKK from the north of Iraq and end the vacuum of authority in the region.
The terrorist organization the PKK uses the north of Iraq as a secure shelter, said Gul. It must be eliminated from there. Military precaution is a must. Thats why we are conducting operations in the region and we will continue to do so.
While the Iraqi government supported efforts to fight the PKK it faced a number of problems, he said.
