All of Turkey’s political parties to common sense over the presidential election, Erdogan said. He also rejected calls from centre right opposition True Path Patty (DYP) and the Motherland Party (ANAP) to delay the presidential vote in the parliament and hold early general elections.
“If we held early elections would the parliament meet votes of 367? The country does not need early general elections,” Erdogan said.
Erdogan said that the current 1982 constitution was designed to put end to the deadlock experienced in presidential elections before the 1980s.
“In those days you could not elect a president in 110 rounds of voting. We will elect the president not in the first two rounds but surely in the third round of voting,” Erdogan said.
