ANKARA - The Turkish parliament on Wednesday approved legislation allowing citizens of foreign countries to acquire land in Turkey.
Under the new law, foreigners can buy land with a total surface area up to 2.5 hectares, though this can be increased to 30 hectares with the approval of the cabinet. The cabinet will be also have authority over the ratio of assets owned by foreigners in a province, ensuring that it does not exceed 0.005 percent of the total surface of the province.
Foreign foundations, associations, co-operatives, societies and groups will not be allowed to buy up assets.
The Defence Ministry will be providing a map that introduces limited zones such as military areas, private security areas and strategic regions.
