TEL AVIV - Israel has lifted a warning to its citizens not to travel to coastal resort areas in southern Turkey, saying that the threat of terrorist attack has been eased.
A statement issued by Israels National Security Council Counter-Terrorism headquarters late Tuesday said that previous warnings against terrorist attacks in the region no longer applied. In light of the lifting of the concrete terrorism threats on the Turkish southern coast between Alanya and Kemer, the Counter-Terrorism HQ is cancelling its recommendation to avoid visiting or being present in the area, the statement said. However, a recommendation to avoid travel to regions near Turkeys borders with Iran and Iraq remains in force, the statement said as does the advisory to be alert and maintain the recommended rules of behaviour throughout Turkey. O August 8, Israel said there was concrete evidence suggesting that its citizens could be the subject of terrorist attack in the Alanya-Kemer stretch of Turkeys coast. Soon after, a Syrian national was arrested on charges of planning to carry out attacks on cruise ships carrying Israeli passengers using speed boats laden with explosives.
