ERZURUM - A freight train was derailed in the east of Turkey Thursday by an mine planted on the rails, the second such incident within a week.
No one was injured in the attack, believed to have been carried out by the terrorist group the PKK, according to local officials.
The train was en route from Erzurum to Erzincan, the two major eastern cities, at the time of the attack, which left seven wagons derailed. Last Saturday, a train was derailed by a mine in the south eastern province of Bingol, with six rail security personnel being killed and more than a dozen injured in the attack.
